"Recreational Therapy (RT) is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses, disabling conditions, and/or adverse circumstances to promote psychological and physical health, recovery, and well-being. Recreational Therapy aims to restore, remediate, or rehabilitate the client’s level of functioning and independence in life activities. Recreational Therapists work in a variety of clinical and community settings and utilize their unique expertise to help individuals overcome barriers to well-being and/or participation in meaningful leisure activities." -ATRA 2025
Although some recreation therapists (CTRS) do provide individual therapy, Unplug and Connect offers a group therapy model. This program is complementary to other individual mental health therapy and can supplement and reinforce work being done with other providers in the community. If necessary, Unplug and Connect can offer consultation or connect with your mental health provider for continuity of care.
"Recreational therapy is provided by qualified professionals know as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS). For more information on the requirements to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, please visit the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Several states also require recreational therapists to be licensed within their states."

Due to the therapeutic nature of our group experiences, participants are not able to try out a day before committing to camp sessions. However, we are happy to book a free consultation call to discuss any needs or concerns. Additionally, many participants find us by participating in other training sessions being offered in the community.
Please reach out to us through our contact information on this site to book a training. We will go over any other questions you might have and tailor our program to fit your needs.
